WENDY CALLAHAN

JUNE 16, 1953 - OCTOBER 17, 2016

Wendy Callahan was a long-time supporter of Run for Mom, raising close to $100,000 for the annual Mother’s Day fundraiser over 18 years.

Wendy received the Queen’s Jubilee Award for her volunteer efforts and the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award, which recognizes individuals who have made a significant, sustained, unpaid contribution to their community.

She began supporting the breast cancer fundraiser in 1999. She was consistently the event’s highest fundraiser, and was recognized for her efforts multiple times by the organizing committee itself. In 2016, although she could not participate herself, Wendy’s team was present with her to donate $10,800 raised through her efforts.

“We just knew that she would be there for us,” says Val Pike, chair of the Run for Mom organizing committee. “She would start soliciting for pledges even before we had new pledge forms printed and on the day, she would just show up with an envelope of money. There was never any doubt to her commitment to our event and our cause.”
